Dr. Sherman Lai, a Traditional Chinese Medicine physician, founder and director of the Oriental Healing Arts Research Institute. He has successfully integrated Chinese medicine, western science, modern nutritional science and life-style coaching through intense research. This unique approach has set the new standard for Chinese medicine in North America.
The Centre of Integrative Natural Medicine is the clinic where Dr. Lai practices the integrative Chinese Medicine. It has become one of the largest and well established alternative medicine clinics in North America exceeding 18,000 patients. The reputation of the clinic has attracted patients and doctors across Canada and from all over the world.
This facility is renowned for its treatment of cancer, chronic and acute pain, digestive system disorders, infertility, asthma, migraines, arthritis, sleeping disorders, detoxification, and hormonal imbalances including many other illnesses.
In combination with both Dr. Lai’s expertise and the clinic’s success in treating cancer and arthritis, he has become one of the leaders of alternative medicine in North America. Dr. Lai is also an educator and a regular speaker for medical institutes and professionals around the world.
In 2002, Dr. Lai founded BioHerbalai Inc. with a mission to integrate the ancient wisdom of Chinese herbal medicine with modern bio-science in the pursuit of better healthcare with integrity and compassion. BioHerbalai Inc. manufactures and distributes the herbal remedies that are developed by Oriental Healing Arts Research Inc. and provides an education platform for various health practitioners. Dr. Lai acts as a consultant to Chinese medicine and Naturopathic doctors for the treatment of many illnesses with a specialty in cancer treatment.
In 2003, Dr. Lai was appointed by the Minister of Ontario Health to be an advisor for setting the standards for the regulation of TCM and acupuncture; Ontario is now one of the provinces in Canada where TCM and Acupuncture are regulated.
Dr. Lai has a strong belief in giving back to the people. He has been a member of the international Rotary Club since 1992 and has contributed his time and effort to various charitable events such as Easter Seals, Hospice, hospital fundraising and various fundraising for children with challenges. In 1998, Dr. Lai spent 3 weeks in Taiwan as a volunteer physician for Taiwanese aboriginals in poverty. While he continues to support this cause, he serves as a medical advisor for one of the most remote hospitals in Taiwan, St. Mary’s Hospital in Tai-Tung, where medical care is provided to those who live in remote areas and poverty.
Dr. Lai also spends a fair amount of his time in Taiwan, working to cultivate the integration of Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine for cancer treatment and care.
Dr. Lai holds honorary 10th -degree black belt in one of oldest form of martial art called Ninjutsu. He is still teaching Ninjutsu at University of Guelph where he has founded this art in Canada 28 years ago.
